Come along to our Spring Soiree

Learn | Ask | Engage | Network

At 4:15pm on Tuesday 20th September The Bridge will host its first Spring Soiree, an annual event designed to provide opportunities for people to gather, hear from highly knowledgeable people in the world of ESG, ask questions, and meet and engage with leaders across business, infrastructure, sustainability and the public sector.

Our topic: As we head towards an uncertain election year amid a period of economic volatility not seen in three decades, what is the likely impact on business in Aotearoa New Zealand?

You will hear from leading voices Alec Tang, Director of Sustainability at Kāinga Ora, and Liz Root, Director of Environment and Planning at Aurecon, as they address these issues and give their perspectives on what actions make most sense in the year ahead.

Liz Root

As Aurecon's Director of Environment and Planning, Liz is well known in the New Zealand infrastructure sector for her work leading the award-winning sustainability and social outcomes strategy on the Auckland City Rail Link. Liz was recognised by Infrastructure Sustainability Council earlier this year at the 2022 Infrastructure Sustainability Council Gala Awards for her sustainability leadership. She received the award for her contribution to elevating the maturity of Aotearoa New Zealand’s design and infrastructure sector in sustainability and social outcomes largely on the Auckland City Rail Link.

Alec Tang

As the Director of Sustainability at Kāinga Ora since May 2021, Alec leads the delivery of the organisation's climate change and sustainability aspirations. This includes providing strategic direction to projects and programmes focused on delivering carbon neutral housing, reducing construction and demolition wastes, increasing ngahere (forest) in our urban environments, building more resilient and low carbon communities, identifying renewable energy opportunities across our asset portfolio and managing our portfolio exposure to climate related risks. He also works to increase the broader knowledge, competence and maturity around sustainability risks and opportunities within the organisation and with its partners, communities and funding agencies.

Three front burner questions we will ask at the Spring Soiree:

1. Why is the impetus to act on environmental and social considerations still a commercial imperative even when we head into economic and political uncertainty?

2. With topics such as Climate Transition Risk and Stranded Assets now becoming major threats, what do you see as the big emerging risks and tipping points that organisations need to pay attention to now?

3. How can organisations turn what they might view as cost and obligation into strategic advantage?

We also offer you opportunities to ask questions that matter to you!

Come along to listen, ask, chat, network

You will also have a great opportunity to network over a drink or two with other business leaders and advisers grappling with these very issues.

We hope to see you there!

Date: Tuesday 20 September, 4pm for a 4:30pm start. Drinks 5:30pm

Location: Generator Stanbeth House, Level 1, 28 Customs Street East, Britomart, Auckland
